The Canary Islands (Spanish: Islas Canarias) are situated in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the west coast of Africa. They consits of the seven major islands Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro and the six menor islands Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste, Roque del Este and Los Lobos. All islands are volcanic origins.

The climate of the Canary Islands offers the whole world in miniature. In a short distance are many different climate zones. So there is are species richness of flora and fauna which you can not find a second time.

That is a reason why many people like to spent their holidays on these pretty islands.

Many plants and animals are endemic, they exists only in this area. Some species exists only on one island. A pretty example is the impressive Tajinaste Rojo (Echium wildpretii) which exists only above 3.000 m on Tenerife.
